The red fox lives in many diverse habitats around the world including forests, grasslands, mountains and deserts. They were introduced by the first European settlers for recreational hunting, but have had a devastating ecological impact.
Red foxes are omnivorous, solitary, nocturnal hunters who feed on rabbits, rodents, birds and other small game. They have also adapted well to live in urban areas and will opportunistically rummage through rubbish bins for food.
