Covid 19 update

With the new information this week we have decided to continue trading at this stage. We will continue to supply our educational resources to schools.

We are taking added precautions with disinfecting surfaces regularly and reducing foot traffic through the centre as much as possible. If you are collecting or returning loans we ask that you don’t bring children into the centre. We appreciate how much they enjoying looking around the display room but we are trying to avoid as much contact as we can.

We are also limiting it to one customer in the front foyer at a time so please wait outside the front door if we are already serving and use the hand sanitiser available in your way in.

We hope you understand our new precautions and we look forward to returning to normal function ASAP when it is safe to do so.

The Nature Education Centre (NEC) is an Adelaide based not-for-profit organisation that provides a hands-on approach to learning about the environment.

The NEC makes school visits, and loans animals, natural history specimens and a range of fascinating kits to our loyal and engaged members in order to get young people interested in the study of nature. We service schools in the Adelaide metropolitan area. This short film gives an insight into what we offer our members.

let us visit you

Have our Education Officer visit you with a range of exciting native animals not available for loan, for your students to study and touch. We are very keen to grow this side of our organisation and would really value input from our members as to what that they would like to see from us moving forward. Click here for information on our talks.

Sponsorship and Volunteers

The NEC relies heavily on donations, sponsorship and volunteer assistance. Individual animals or cages of animals may be sponsored. Volunteers may start at 15 years of age and can be involved in animal care, educational events and resources or administration. Donations and community support are always appreciated.

Partnership with SASTA

The NEC was started as a project with the South Australian Science Teachers Association (SASTA) and is run as a non-profit organisation sharing a common passion for the study and preservation of our natural environment. We are very proud to have recently extended our Memorandum of Understanding and partnership with SASTA to 2024. Visit SASTA's website here.
