Nature Education Centre

The Nature Education Centre sells and lends out animals, natural history specimens and kits to its members so that children are encouraged to study animals and their habitats by coming into direct contact with them.

The Nature Education Centre (NEC) is an Adelaide based not-for-profit organisation that provides a hands-on approach to learning about the environment.

The NEC makes school visits, and loans animals, natural history specimens and a range of fascinating kits to our loyal and engaged members in order to get young people interested in the study of nature. We service schools in the Adelaide metropolitan area

This short film gives an insight into what we offer our members.

Let us visit you

Have our Education Officer visit you with a range of exciting native animals not available for loan, for your students to study and touch. We are very keen to grow this side of our organisation and would really value input from our members as to what that they would like to see from us moving forward. Click below for information on our talks.

Sponsorship & Volunteers

The NEC relies heavily on donations, sponsorship and volunteer assistance. Individual animals or cages of animals may be sponsored. Volunteers may start at 15 years of age and can be involved in animal care, educational events and resources or administration. Donations and community support are always appreciated.

Partnership with SASTA

The NEC was started as a project with the South Australian Science Teachers Association (SASTA) and is run as a non-profit organisation sharing a common passion for the study and preservation of our natural environment. We are very proud to have recently extended our Memorandum of Understanding and partnership with SASTA to 2024.
